The Audio Files In The TOEFL Listening Section

TOEFL Listening Section

| TOEFL Excellenceif you take the exam BEFORE July, 2023 — there will be between 3 or 4 Lectures, and 2 or 3 Conversations in The Listening Section.  If you take the exam AFTER July, 2023 — there will be only 3 Lectures & 2 Conversations.  All of the Audio Files in The Listening Section are meant to mimic the types of Lectures & Conversations that one may experience while at an English-Speaking University.

| TOEFL Excellenceowever — besides the two categories of “Lecture” & “Conversation” — there are three different types of Audio Files that you will experience in The Listening Section.  These are…

      • Lecture  —  Only The Professor Speaks
      • Lecture  —  Both Professor & Students Speak
      • Conversation  —  Two People (In A University Setting)

Lecture — Only The Professor Speaks

| TOEFL Excellences with all Sections, Questions, Tasks, etc. — The Lectures in The TOEFL Listening Section are meant to mimic a typical experience that one would encounter in an English-Speaking University.

| TOEFL Excellencehe Lectures where-in Only The Professor Speaks are virtually the same Style & Structure as The Reading Passages in The Reading Section.  The length of The Audio Files of this type are also about the same (as far as word-count) — and the topics are also quite similar.

      • Scientific  —  (Biology, Geology, Sociology, etc.)
      • Literary  —  (a Person, Period, or Style of Classical Literature)
      • Artistic  —  (a Person, Period, or Style of Artistic Expression)
      • Social  —  (any of the modern Social Issues)

| TOEFL Excellencehe examples, above, are very commonly used — but the topics of The Lecture-Type are not limited to only these possibilities.  They could be just about anything that a person could take a class about in a first year of university.  But the above classifications are the most common.

Remember!  —  You do NOT need to study these subjects before taking The TOEFL Exam.  Doing-so would almost-certainly be a waste of your time, as it would be impossible to know exactly what the topic of the Lectures will be on The Exam.

Lecture — Both Professor & Students Speak

| TOEFL Excellencehese types of Lectures are meant to mimic a classroom discussion where-in the Professor presents some idea, and then that idea is discussed and/or debated between the Professor and Student.

Conversation Between Two People

| TOEFL Excellencehis Type of Audio File is meant to mimic a Conversation that a person would have while experiencing “University-Life”.  Examples of these Conversations could be any of the following type:

      • A Discussion With A Professor
      • A Discussion With A Teaching Assistant
      • A Discussion With A Faculty Member About Something School-Related

| TOEFL Excellencehese Conversations may be ABOUT a specific class, or something related to the student’s “University-Life” — but not directly related to the subject material IN a class.

Summary

The Types Of Audio Files In The TOEFL Exam...

As you can see — these Types of Audio Files in The TOEFL Listening Section are very-much like the Reading Passages in The TOEFL Reading Section.  You do NOT need to study these types of subjects in-order-to prepare for The TOEFL Exam.  You only need to be able to comprehend the English in The Reading Passage.  😎
